Additional Details

Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan) is a flagship program launched by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It aims to build a barrier-free environment for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) across three key pillars: the Built Environment, the Transportation System, and the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) ecosystem.

Under the campaign, public and government buildings are retrofitted with ramps, disabled-friendly toilets, and braille signage. Public transport (trains, buses, airports) is upgraded with boarding aids. In the digital space, government websites are modified to meet accessibility guidelines (text-to-speech, screen-reader friendliness), and sign-language translations are integrated on television.

Accessing public accessibility facilities or requesting audits is free. The Sugamya Bharat mobile application enables citizens to report accessibility barriers directly to local urban local bodies.
