Additional Details
The Agnipath Scheme is a central government recruitment program for youth below officer rank into the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Recruits, known as Agniveers, serve for a term of 4 years, which includes 6 months of training followed by 3.5 years of active service. Upon completion of the tenure, up to 25% of the batch may be selected for permanent enrolment in the regular cadre.
Financial benefits include a customized monthly package starting from ₹30,000 in the first year to ₹40,000 in the fourth year, along with risk and hardship allowances. Recruits also receive a non-contributory life insurance cover of ₹48 lakh and an ex-gratia of ₹44 lakh in case of death in the line of duty.
On discharge after 4 years, Agniveers receive the 'Seva Nidhi' package of approximately ₹11.71 lakh (half contributed by the recruit's monthly salary deduction and matching half from the government), which is exempt from Income Tax. Agniveers also receive a Skill Profile Certificate and support/reservations for post-release employment.
