Additional Details
Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), launched in June 2015, is a major urban development mission by the Government of India. The primary objective is to upgrade basic infrastructure in 500 selected cities, ensuring adequate sewage networks, continuous water supply, and citizen-friendly civic facilities.
AMRUT's core target projects are divided into key focus areas: (i) Water Supply (installing tap connections and upgrading distribution), (ii) Sewerage & Septage Management (improving underground drainage and treatment facilities), (iii) Storm Water Drainage (mitigating urban flooding), (iv) Green Spaces & Parks (developing public recreation spaces), and (v) Non-Motorized Urban Transport (building walking and cycling tracks to reduce pollution).
The program relies on public-private partnership (PPP) models and collaborates with the Swachh Bharat Mission and local state infrastructure funds. Nodal coordination is managed at the state level through State Annual Action Plans (SAAP).
