Additional Details
Gramin Bhandaran Yojana, also known as the Rural Godown Scheme, was launched by the Government of India in 2001-02 and is currently subsumed under the Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure (AMI) sub-scheme of the Integrated Scheme for Agricultural Marketing (ISAM). The primary objective of the scheme is to construct or renovate rural godowns to provide scientific storage capacity for agricultural produce, prevent distress sales by small farmers immediately after harvest, and improve overall market holding capacity. Administered by the Directorate of Marketing & Inspection (DMI) and implemented in partnership with NABARD, the scheme offers capital investment subsidies to individual farmers, cooperatives, self-help groups, and private companies to construct warehouses between 100 tonnes and 30,000 tonnes capacity (with relaxations down to 25 tonnes in hilly and tribal areas).
