Additional Details
The Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) is a central sector scheme formulated in December 1993 and administered by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The scheme enables Members of Parliament (MPs) to recommend developmental works based on locally felt community needs in their constituencies. Initially, it was managed by the Ministry of Rural Development before MoSPI assumed administration. Elected and Nominated members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha can select works across drinking water, education, public health, sanitation, and roads. MoSPI disburses funds (currently ₹5 Crore per year released in two equal installments) to District Authorities, who sanction the works, identify implementation agencies, and monitor the assets. Funds are non-lapsable, allowing unspent balances to carry forward.
