Additional Details
The National Action Plan for Climate Change (NAPCC) is a comprehensive national program launched by the Government of India to address the challenges of climate change while promoting sustainable development. The plan is structured around eight core national missions, each representing a multi-pronged, long-term, and integrated strategy to achieve key environmental and socio-economic goals.
The eight missions are: 1. National Solar Mission (to promote solar energy generation), 2. National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency (to improve energy conservation), 3. National Mission on Sustainable Habitat (to build green urban habitats), 4. National Water Mission (to conserve and optimize water resources), 5. National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem (to protect the critical mountain ecology), 6. Green India Mission (to restore and expand forest cover), 7. National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (to make agricultural practices resilient), and 8. National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change (to foster research and knowledge sharing).
These missions are implemented by respective ministries in coordination with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), aiming to reduce the emissions intensity of India's economy while fostering green growth.
