Additional Details
Digital India is a flagship initiative of the Government of India, primarily coordinated by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). It aims to transform the country into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The program integrates dozens of digital systems and services onto a unified backbone.
The core of the initiative is Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) (also known as India Stack), which includes Aadhaar for identity, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for real-time payments, DigiLocker for electronic document storage, and account aggregator frameworks. Additionally, the initiative drives physical digital access in rural areas via BharatNet (fiber connectivity to village panchayats) and Common Service Centres (CSCs), and promotes digital literacy through the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA).
Registration and access to public digital stacks is free. Official portals do not charge citizens or startups for core integration services.
